Memorial Boys Capture Tenth State Title

February 21, 2009 -

The Madison Memorial boys swim team capped off an undefeated season by capturing the school's tenth state championship.

Nate Broadbridge got the meet off to an outstanding start with a 2d place finish in diving. The 200 Medley Relay, the team of Kyle Challis, Shaun Marcott, Ben Anderson and Broadbridge followed that up by finishing a strong fourth.

Michael Drives victory in the 200 free was the most impressive performance of the meet. His time of 1:38.02 eclipsed the state record by 1.3 seconds and broke the UW-Natatorium pool record established by Olympic medalist, Peter Vanderkaay.

Freshman, Patrick Franken had a significant time drop to move up to 9th in the 200 IM while Jake Schneider finished tied for 9th and Anderson finished 16th in the 50 free. Challis finished 14th in the 100 fly while Schneider placed 15th in the 100 free. In the 500 free, Franken moved up to 12th while Drives was significantly under the previous state record with his runner up finish in the 500 free.

The 200 Free relay of Anderson, Broadbridge, Schneider and Drives beat the previous state record held by Memorial captured the bronze. Challis had fantastic performance in the 100 back moving up to a tie for fourth. Senior, Shaun Marcott, finished his high school career in impressive fashion with an 8th place finish in the 100 breast. Finally, the 400 free relay of Schneider, Challis, Michael Salerno and Drives brought home a 4th place finish to secure the victory.

30th Annual JMM Boys Alumni Meet - Tuesday, December 23, 2008

Dust off that Speedo and find your goggles... The 30th Annual JMM Boys Alumni Meet will be held onTuesday, December 23rd, 2008 at the friendly confines of Madison Memorial pool. Here are the important times:

WARMUPS: 4:30 PM
PARADE OF ALUMNI: 5:30 PM
MEET STARTS: ~5:45 PM
POST-MEET CELEBRATION (@ Gammon Road Nitty Gritty): 7:30 PM

Remember that the earlier you can arrive at the meet, the more time Bill has to put together our winning line-up. After our victory, we will celebrate at the Nitty Gritty (off of Gammon Road towards Middleton)

Memorial Girls Plus 66 Points and Set Six School Records on Way to Third Place Finish

November 15, 2008-

After being seeded to place sixth with just 140 points, the Madison Memorial Girls used an incredible state meet performance, setting six school records and plusing a staggering 66 points, (the second most points in girls program history) to take home third place behind Madison East and Arrowhead.

In the 200 Medley Relay, the relay team of Jackie Powell, Kendra Loch, Kelsie Saxe and Kayla Smith moved up from eleventh to place third in a new school record time of 1:46.02, eclipsing the previous eighteen year record (a record that used to be the state record for twelve years). In the next event, the 200 Freestyle, Jackie Powell beat her own school record she had set at Sectionals by over two seconds, winning the state title with the second fastest time in state history, 1:49.21.

Senior Kayla Smith broke Jackie Flint's school record in the 50 Freestyle with a 23.29 to place second, recording the third fastest time in state history. In the 100 Backstroke, Jackie Powell smashed the school record with a 56.10 on route to her second state title. Finally in the 400 Freestyle relay, the relay team of Jackie Powell, Kelsie Saxe, Mackenzie King, and Kayla Smith broke a one year old school record by over two seconds with a 3:28.22, which is the fourth fastest time in state history. Jackie's leadoff split of 50.44 also broke Jackie Flint's 100 Freestyle school record.
